Oh man, I have been so off this week. I took last Friday off, because I have reached a point in the year where I need to start using vacation days. We don’t really take long vacations for a variety of reasons, but if needed, I can always pull from my pre scheduled Fridays. It turned out my daughter had an appointment in Champaign on Friday, so I went along and we ran around there most of the day. So then Saturday rolled around, and it really felt like Sunday. Except it was Saturday.
Let’s see what has been recently interesting on the internet shall we?
New Old Games at Gamestop This is a bit older but apparently Gamestop, as part of some sort of “Retro initiative” is selling games for old systems. Physical games, for the NES, Dreamcast, Gameboy, etc. I mean, like half are a partnership probably with Limited Run games, but it’s kind of neat.
It does seem kind of funny that so little gets made for old systems still, but also not. Physical carts like this are expensive to make. And it’s for a system that you can’t even easily buy. And when you do, they may not work properly. There is a joke comic with a Dreamcast where the system is like “Oh sorry, my CMOS died, I can’t play games, psych, let’s go, what day is it?” This is in reference to the system simply, asking for the date/time on boot.
Super slow this week, I guess it’s that time of year or something. Or probably just, they can’t all be bangers. Or something…
So let’s talk a bit about the garden. For basically the first time since moving here, almost ten years ago now, I am actually getting stuff from the garden. Granted, I didn’t do the garden at first so it’s been more like, 6 years. I have moved it around several places and added some protection and I have managed to deter the animals enough that I get the food and not them.
I feel like Godzilla and Eggs is kind of a weird crossover, but Godzilla is also one of those characters that gets a lot of random merch because its a pretty popular franchise. Especially among merch buying types. I have found these at Ross, but I remember seeing them before online and thinking they seemed neat in a weird way. There are four toys in the line, Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, King Ghidorah, and Mothra. I only have Godzilla and Mothra, but if I find the other two, I would pick them up. They are not super expensive at “non Ross” pricing, so I may get them anyway. (Side Note, I believe there is a burning Godzilla repaint of the Godzilla one.)
Boy, I comment sometimes that I have “used Linux for ages”. And I was looking at some past journal entries and found some from 2001 where I was complaining about Linux. I am not positive, but it may have been from my first time using it, or trying to. I mostly was just bitching about how Windows was better and Linux sucks.
Hopefully I remember it, but I had a good name for this but forgot it before I wrote it down. That’s why I make these notes so I can better remember things. Anyway, I have decided to try something new here, maybe it will become a regular thing. Essentially the idea is to sort of talk about recent-ish random news stuff that I want to talk about. It doesn’t even have to be from “last week” or “the upcoming week”. Weekly Wrap Up on Saturday is looking back, these posts, will be a bit looking ahead.
